HRA qualified expenses

The money in a health reimbursement arrangement (HRA) can be used to reimburse the employee for qualified health care expenses.

What expenses qualify to be paid through an HRA account?
Qualified expenses are specified in the health plan, so check the plan documents. Examples may include:
  • Costs for doctor visits, hospitalization, lab tests
  • Coinsurance (when the employee pays 20% of a health care cost, and insurance pays 80%, for example)
