Managing pharmacy to help reduce long-term costs

Key to managing health care costs is an effective, evidence-based pharmacy management program – it simply delivers results. Priority Health has been tracking below national pharmacy cost trends for five years, which in turn helps you manage your long-term, per-capita health care costs.

At the heart of our pharmacy program is our Approved Drug List. This carefully-monitored list is maintained by a committee of physicians and pharmacists as well as health care professionals from Priority Health. Every drug on this list is reviewed by the committee and placed on the appropriate tier based on relative effectiveness, safety and cost data. The Approved Drug List is updated up to 6 times per year.

If drugs are added, removed or moved to a different cost tier, we send a letter immediately to the affected members. We also communicate changes on our website and in our member, employer and provider newsletters.

Effective pharmacy management is more than just the Approved Drug List – we also leverage our manufacturer and physician relationships and our integrated clinical programs to create a pharmacy program that has outperformed national trends since 2003. Through our commitment to evidence-based medicine, clinical effectiveness and patient safety, we can provide the best clinical pharmacy care available at the most reasonable cost.
