COBRA Coverage Michigan

New law affects COBRA premium payment

Effective March 1, 2009, employers are now required to subsidize 65% of COBRA premiums for up to nine months. This change is due to the "stimulus bill" (officially called the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, or ARRA) that was put into law by the federal government in February.

If you were terminated from your job on Sept. 1, 2008, or later, you may be eligible for this subsidy. Please contact your former employer for details.

COBRA coverage gives employees the opportunity to continue health insurance benefits at times when they would normally lose eligibility (resignation, termination, leave of absence, etc.). Since 1994, Priority Health has partnered with Infinisource, one of the foremost COBRA administrators in the nation, to offer COBRA coverage to Michigan employer groups at competitive rates.
