2008 Priority Health Senior Impact Award winners announced


(Sept. 22, 2008)  Priority Health announces the four regional winners of its Senior Impact Award, which was developed to recognize the ways senior volunteers put their energy and commitment to work for the community.

The United Way and Volunteer Centers of Michigan worked with Priority Health to identify senior volunteers in their Michigan communities, to collect nominations, and to choose the winners.

Area 1        Margaret Tare of Leelanau County
Margaret Tare 08Margaret is a volunteer at the Father Fred Foundation. This foundation cares for the mentally and physically distressed, the poor, the hungry and those suffering from unforeseen challenges. Margaret serves daily at the Foundation and at the age of 92 is an inspiration to all.


Area 2        Helen Chappell of Mecosta County
Helen Chappel 08Helen is a volunteer at EightCAP, Inc., Senior Companion. In addition to her outstanding service as a Senior Companion, Helen is a leader for the Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion volunteers and serves on the Mid-Michigan Community Action Governing Board.


Area 3        Marion Vos of Kent County
Marion Vos 08Marion is a volunteer at Home Repair Services who has been volunteering three days a week year-round. He has served a total of 4,785 hours making homes safer for countless numbers of families. He has also volunteered for Volunteers in Service, Potter's House and Mel Trotter Mission.


Area 4        James O'Connor, D.O., of Jackson County
Dr. Conner 08Dr. O'Connor is a retired physician who volunteers daily at St. Luke's Clinic, a free health care clinic. In addition he is President of St. Vincent de Paul/Conference of Our Lady of Fatima Parish. He is also President of Kiwanis Club of Jackson.
