Priority Health Announces Michigan Senior Impact Award Recipient
Hospice of Michigan to receive $2,500 in recognition of volunteer's exceptional service

(February 6, 2007) Priority Health today announced the Michigan Senior Impact Award Recipient of the Year, June Hamersma of Grand Rapids.



In November 2006, Priority Health announced four regional winners of its Senior Impact Awards, which were developed to recognize the ways senior volunteers put their energy and commitment to work for the community.

The Michigan Volunteer Center and the United Way Volunteer Centers in Grand Rapids, Holland, Traverse City and Saginaw worked with Priority Health to identify senior volunteers in their Michigan communities, to collect nominations, and to choose the winners.


2006 Senior Impact Award Winners

June Hamersma of Kent County
June is the founding chair of the Hospice of Michigan Foundation and has logged more than 17 years and 2,000 hours of community service.

Kathleen Packer of Grand Traverse
Kathleen is the president of the Grand Traverse Area Literacy Council and has been instrumental in developing workshops, tutoring programs and fundraising opportunities for the Council.
Robert Dorton of Ottawa County
Robert is a volunteer of the MSU Extension. He currently mentors two children from the program and has assisted with mentor recruitment and fundraising.

Kenneth Bueche of Saginaw
Kenneth has been a Meals on Wheels driver since 1984. He also volunteers on the Commission on Aging Board, Chesaning Senior Center Board and as a Senior Transporter for the elderly.

Grand Haven Tribune - West Olive man wins a Senior Impact Award as youth mentor volunteer. Priority Health presented Robert Dorton of West Olive with the health insurance corporation's Senior Impact Award in Grand Rapids on Tuesday.
