Priority Health honors providers for quality care

Priority Health, one of the nation’s top health plans, is recognizing nearly 200 primary care practices across the state of Michigan with a Priority Health Quality Award. The Priority Health Quality Awards, established in 2003, recognize practices for their performance in delivering excellence in health care.

 “For more than 15 years, we have been working with physicians across the state to improve the quality of care for patients,” said Kimberly K. Horn, president and CEO for Priority Health. “This long-standing partnership has led us to create programs and services that far exceed the industry.  As a result, patients in Michigan are more likely to get breast and colon cancer screenings and help managing their chronic diseases than anywhere else in the nation.” 

Priority Health analyzes the highest-performing practices within its network of 14,000 providers through its Partners in Performance program. The program provides financial rewards to primary care doctors who provide appropriate screenings and preventive care to patients.  The National Business Coalition on Health recognized Partners in Performance for effectively rewarding physicians for providing high quality and cost-efficient care for patients.

Over 15 years, the company has paid out $150 million in support of primary care, over and above standard payment for services.  The company expects to pay physicians $30 million in 2011.
