Priority Health encourages support of Older Michiganian Day June 10
(Grand Rapids, Mich. - June 9, 2010)
Today, Priority Health will join other senior advocates to recognize Older Michiganian Day at a rally held on the lawn of the state Capitol. Together the organizations are encouraging support for issues and programs that affect older Michigan residents.
"We recognize the unique challenges that face seniors within Michigan," said Kimberly K. Horn, president and CEO for Priority Health. "We are proud to be a part of an event that is focused on improving the quality of life for these important members of our community."
Approximately 600 senior advocates from around Michigan will attend the rally and discuss a platform of recommendations to help Michigan prioritize state support for older adults in a way that best meets the challenges and opportunities presented by the economic climate and an aging population. The platform urges the Michigan Legislature and the Governor to:
- Protect services for the most vulnerable
- Invest in prevention programs that work and save money
- Make Michigan a retirement destination of choice
- Close tax loopholes, reform government, and restructure taxes to raise needed revenue
Priority Health is a sponsor of Older Michiganian Day. Several other community organizations have joined together to coordinate this event such as the Area Agency on Aging, Alzheimer's Association Greater Michigan Chapter and the Michigan Association of Senior Centers.
